Visit Mount Tamana Bat Caves
Mount Tamana lies on the eastern edge of the Central Range, south of Sangre Grande. It rises to a height just over 1000 feet and geologically it is unique in Trinidad as it is mostly made up of ancient reefs that have been uplifted from the oceans. After many millennia it was pushed out of the oceans running water has carved intricate cave systems within the calcium carbonate left by the reefs. These caves are now the homes to many wonderful geckos and other critters, however its most abundant inhabitants are millions of bats!

At the cave we can enter and do some exploring as thousands of bats fly all around. Entering the first chamber can provide amazing and close views of these incredible creatures. The adventurous can wriggle through the small hole that connects the first chamber to the rest of the cave system. This will bring you into contact with many bats and other creatures that live in the cave.

Stand in the among the Bats
At sunset, stand at the entrance of the cave as a river rapid of millions of bats stream past you producing a unique and exhilarating experience. Here you can feel the wind of their wings as hundreds flutter past, and now and again one may land on you for a few seconds.

Tour the Bush Bush Wildlife Sanctuary
The Bush Bush Wildlife Sanctuary is situated at the south-western region of the Nariva Swamp, and is home to more than 200 species of birds and animals. The Sanctuary sits on Bush Bush Island – an area of high ground that is approximately 3 meters about the swamp that is bordered by palms and covered in hardwood and silk cotton trees. Here, red howler monkeys are often seen swinging between the hardwood and huge silk cotton trees which also serve as the nesting place for colourful parrots, the red-bellied macaw and an array of beautiful butterflies.

Go in search of Red Howler Monkeys
Nariva Swamp is home to Red Howler and Capuchin Monkeys. These amazing primates are easiest to see when hiking in the Bush Bush area. Hiking along a flat trail into Bush Bush one can access the Monkey viewing area. The Howlers can be found among the branches of the larger trees.

Experience the wonderful flora and fauna of Nariva Swamp
Along the way we will also search for White-fronted Capuchins, a smaller monkey that can be seen here. This area also offers other wildlife such birds like the Black-crested Antshrike, Silvered Antbird, Gallinules, Macaws or Butterflies like the Blue Emperor Morpho.

Hike through the Lush Tropical Forest
Starting at the Blanchisseuse Spring Bridge, you walk through the North Coast Forest, over uphill climbs and downhill slides, across the Paria Beach. Once at the Paria Beach the hike ends with a short trek to the Paria Waterfall after approximately three hours.

Discover Turtle Rock and other unique coastal features
During this coastal hike, travellers will come across a majestic 50ft peninsula known as Turtle Rock. Its name is derived from the green and marine turtles that frequent the surrounding Caribbean Sea. This spot overlooks the coast and is an ideal backdrop for pictures.

Take a rejuvenating swim at the Waterfall
At the end of your hike, one of the most remarkable hidden waterfalls comes into view. Clean, clear, pristine waters of the Northern Range tumble over 20 feet of rocks into a refreshing and blissful plunge pool, to rejuvenate the body and mind for the hike out.
